The Mars Volta launched their first new tune in a decade, “Blacklight Shine,” and announced a North American tour.
The band, most generally identified for experimental prog rock, highlights a most accessible facet right here, with Cedric Bixler-Zavala singing in each Spanish and English over polished, funky riffs and a sprightly conga groove. They pair the only with an 11-minute brief movie directed by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, the band’s guitarist, producer and instrumental composer.

In a press release, Bixler-Zavala says the tune’s lyrics discover the idea of “a wave of rolling blackouts washing reminiscences onto shore, a heartbeat that also remembers all the things.”
