Don McLean’s ‘Vincent’ lyrics expected to fetch $1 million at auction

Sept 21 (Reuters) – The unique handwritten lyrics of Don McLean’s music “Vincent,” a tribute to painter Vincent van Gogh, are going up for public sale in November with an estimated worth of $1 million.

The lyrics to the music, which options on his best-selling “American Pie” album, had been scrawled in pencil on inexperienced paper. The lyrics are actually the star merchandise amongst a group of a whole bunch of non-public objects which are being bought by the American singer-songwriter by Julien’s Auctions.

“I made a decision to essentially let a variety of stuff go,” McLean, now 76, advised Reuters. Amongst his treasure trove there are 25 guitars, jewellery, stage-worn clothes, and classic watches.

First launched in 1971, “Vincent” opens with the phrases “Starry, starry evening” and was impressed by the Dutch painter’s well-known work “The Starry Evening.” McLean stated he wrote the lyrics whereas trying on the Van Gogh portray.

“I stated, gee, I do know what I will do. I will simply take a look at the ‘Starry Evening’ portray and see if it speaks to me. And lo and behold, it nearly wrote the entire music,” McLean stated.

“Vincent” is probably McLean’s most well-known music after “American Pie,” the lyrics of which bought for $1.2 million at public sale in 2015.

The public sale takes place on Nov. 11-13, 2022 on the Arduous Rock Cafe in New York Metropolis and on-line at Julien’s Auctions. A portion of the proceeds of public sale will go to the Don McLean Basis.
