V&A celebrates ‘Korean Wave’ of popular culture with new exhibition

LONDON, Sept 21 (Reuters) – From the intense pink guard costumes in hit Netflix sequence “Squid Recreation” to a big sculpture of rapper G-Dragon, London’s V&A museum is celebrating South Korean fashionable tradition and its rise to international prominence in a brand new exhibition opening this week.

Among the many gadgets on show at “Hallyu! The Korean Wave” are Ok-Pop costumes, Ok-drama props in addition to a duplicate of the toilet set in Oscar-winning movie “Parasite”.

“This exhibition is definitely celebrating the colourful and vibrant fashionable tradition from South Korea from its inception to its place on the worldwide stage,” curator Rosalie Kim informed Reuters at a preview on Wednesday.

“‘Hallyu’ really means Korean wave and it refers to this meteoric rise of fashionable tradition from South Korea that has taken the world by storm previously few a long time.”

The exhibition is cut up into completely different sections together with Ok-pop and its followers, tv drama and cinema, trend and wonder.

Greeting guests is the pink jacket singer Psy wore within the music video for his 2012 mega hit “Gangnam Fashion”. Different outfits on show embody ensembles worn by G-Dragon and Ok-pop teams ATEEZ and Aespa in addition to vibrant designer creations.

From the world of tv, there are costumes from historic dramas in addition to the recognisable pink boiler fits and a inexperienced tracksuit from “Squid Recreation”.

The “Parasite” rest room reproduction is the primary time the set from the protagonist Kim household’s basement flat has been recreated, with the museum working carefully with the movie’s manufacturing designer Lee Ha-jun.
