WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Division requested an appeals court docket on Thursday to stop the closing of U.S. Sugar’s plan to purchase Imperial Sugar Co after a decrease court docket dominated that the $315 million deal might go ahead.
The division requested the court docket to order the businesses to delay closing till an enchantment may very well be heard. It argued that the reduction was wanted to “shield competitors and to protect the Authorities’s means to acquire an efficient treatment on enchantment.” It stated that if the appeals court docket doesn’t act that the businesses might shut on October 3.
U.S. Sugar, which has fought the federal government to protect the merger, didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.
