LOS ANGELES, Dec 14 (Reuters) – Comic Eddie Murphy will settle for a lifetime achievement honor subsequent month on the Golden Globes, the annual ceremony that’s attempting to revive its fame in Hollywood after a range and ethics scandal.
The Hollywood Overseas Press Affiliation, the group that votes on the Globe winners, introduced on Wednesday that Murphy would obtain the Cecil B. DeMille award to have fun his contributions to leisure.
Murphy, 61, was a forged member on tv sketch present “Saturday Night time Dwell” and went on to star in movies akin to “Beverly Hills Cop,” “The Nutty Professor,” “48 Hours” and “Dreamgirls.”
Earlier DeMille award recipients have included Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Sophia Loren, Tom Hanks, Jane Fonda and Robert De Niro.
The consideration for Murphy provides an enormous title to the Globes telecast on Jan. 10. The ceremony has been often called a star-studded, alcohol-fueled occasion that kicks off Hollywood’s awards season, however it’s unclear which nominees will attend the upcoming ceremony.
The Globes had been tainted after a 2021 Los Angeles Occasions investigation probed the HFPA’s practices and revealed the group had no Black members.
Longtime broadcaster NBC dropped the 2022 telecast, however the Comcast-owned (CMCSA.O) community agreed to air the Globes once more in 2023 after the group made reforms.
