A Commerce City dog was stolen from his home in November and thrown out the window of a moving car, breaking his spine, police said.

“He was in both tremendous pain and unable to move,” the Commerce City Police Department said in a Facebook post last week. “This sweet boy had to be euthanized.”

Rambo was dog-napped from his backyard on Nov. 23 and, around 7:45 p.m., tossed out the passenger window of a moving car near East 64th Avenue and Monaco Street, police said.

The dog’s owners told investigators that Rambo had been left in the backyard earlier that day and was gone when they returned home, according to the Facebook post.

A bystander who saw the “horrific ordeal” tried to help Rambo before officers arrived and called the police, investigators said.

Officers took Rambo to an emergency veterinarian clinic but said the staff had to put him down because of his broken spine.

Police said whoever threw the dog out the window faces felony aggravated animal cruelty charges and that investigators continue to search for the person responsible.

“This is sickening and heart-wrenching and we desperately need your help,” investigators said.
