CAIRO, Feb 28 (Reuters) – Egypt’s historic mosque of al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, named after the sixth Fatimid caliph and situated in outdated Cairo, was reopened for guests on Monday, Feb. 27 after renovations.
The renovation mission for Egypt’s fourth oldest mosque and its second largest started in 2017 with a finances of 85 million Egyptian kilos ($2.8 million).
The renovation, completed in collaboration between Egypt’s antiquities authority and Bohra Shia sect, included architectural restoration in addition to upkeep to guard the partitions of the mosque from the results of moisture and salts.
