Jamie Foxx reportedly told fans at the October taping of his new Netflix special that he was “within an inch of his life” following his mysterious 2023 health scare.
According to several audience members, Foxx went into detail about the “near-death experience” during his standup set, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was,” which premieres Dec. 10.
Demecos Chambers, a longtime follower of Foxx, was at the Atlanta taping and told CNN the Oscar winner revealed his undisclosed diagnosis and discussed his recovery in length.
Chambers said the comedian, 56, didn’t spare any details about the timeline of events, from passing out on the set of “Back in Action” to gaining consciousness 20 days later.
Foxx reportedly told the audience that “he passed out and remembered waking up” before calling it a “near-death experience.”
“He spoke about waking up in the hospital,” Chambers continued. “He thought he just passed out for a second, but it was two or three weeks. He was in a stone-cold coma.”
The “Ray” actor said that, by the time he woke up, he had grown a beard.
Chambers claimed Foxx said that “if he didn’t get to the hospital in that moment and the nurse didn’t treat him in a certain timeframe, he said he would have died.”
The triple threat allegedly said he was “within an inch of his life.”
“He was gone. It was lights out,” Chambers further claimed.
Foxx reportedly credited his family — specifically daughters Corinne, 30, and Anelise, 16 — for keeping him alive.
“His daughter was playing a family guitar and that is what woke him up and kept him alive during his coma,” Chambers recalled from the secretive standup.
“He really worships his daughters. They play a significant part of the show. He says this situation gave him a grander perspective on life and the people around him.”
Although the “Django Unchained” made a miraculous recovery, he still has a ways to go.
“He was able to function on his own and didn’t need any assistance on stage. He’s very much active and robust, but you can tell that he’s recovering from a serious health issue – he’s more conscious of how he moves,” Chambers said. “But he talks about how great he feels and does some jumping up and down.”
He added, “Jamie is an amazing storyteller. He can tell a story where you feel like you’re sitting with your uncles. It was hilarious.”
In April 2023, Foxx’s eldest daughter revealed her dad had suffered a “medical complication” and was recovering in the hospital.
However, the family never disclosed exactly what happened. After weeks of round-the-clock care, he was admitted to a rehab center.
Foxx spent over six months recovering behind closed doors before stepping back into the spotlight.
Next week will be the first time he discusses the scary situation in detail — and we’re told he also addressed the allegations that Sean “Diddy” Combs caused his hospitalization.
However, it’s unclear which parts of the taping made the final cut.
