PARKES, Jan 6 (Reuters) – Among the many tons of of Elvis tribute acts wandering the Australian nation city of Parkes, one stands out: Sheryl Scharkie, also called ShElvis.
Parkes, 350 km northwest of Sydney, is residence to a 64-meter telescope and an annual Elvis Pageant, now in its thirtieth 12 months. Over 5 days in early January, some 24,000 followers descend on a city usually residence to about 14,000.
A nurse by day, the 64-year-old Scharkie is Australia’s most distinguished Elvis Tribute Artist (ETA), as they’re recognized, and for many of her almost decade-long profession, the nation’s solely feminine one.
