Muse will launch their ninth album, Will of the Folks, on Aug. 26. The British alt-prog trio previewed the challenge with lead single “Compliance,” paired with an unnerving video.
“Compliance” is a cool, synth-streaked observe constructed on a distorted bass groove, punchy drums and vocoder chords that swoop in to paint Matt Bellamy’s hovering refrain vocal. The video provides a creepy edge, using imagery of burning automobiles, glowing eyes, masks and mysterious drugs.

In a press launch, Bellamy detailed the inspiration for “Compliance,” calling it a music “about submission to authoritarian guidelines and reassuring untruths to be accepted to an in-group.”
