Prince‘s long-shelved Camille album is lastly headed to your turntable, courtesy of Jack White.
White and his Third Man Information co-founder Ben Blackwell have revealed that they obtained the rights to launch the 1986 album, on which Prince employs pitch-shifting to carry out underneath the guise of the album’s androgynous titular alter-ego. “We’re lastly going to place it out,” Blackwell advised Mojo. “Prince’s individuals agreed – nearly too simple.”
All eight Camille tracks have been beforehand launched formally in some kind. “Housequake,” “Strange Relationship” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend” wound up on Prince’s subsequent document, 1987’s double-album masterpiece Sign O’ the Times. “Really feel U Up” and “Shockadelica” have been launched because the B-sides to “Partyman” from the Batman album and “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” respectively.
“Good Love” turned up on the soundtrack to the Michael J. Fox film Vivid Lights, Large Metropolis. “Rockhard in a Funky Place” appeared on The Black Album, which obtained a restricted launch in 1994, and “Rebirth of the Flesh” was launched in 2020 as a part of an expanded reissue of Sign O’ the Times.
To first show he “had some pores and skin within the sport,” White bid $49,375 to win an public sale for one of many 25 copies of Camille recognized to have survived Prince’s choice to scrap the album’s unique launch. Questlove had reportedly outbid him for an additional copy again in 2017.

This would possibly not be the primary time Third Man labored with the Prince property. In 2020, the label launched a restricted version 7″ vinyl field set devoted to the singles from Signal O’ the Instances.
