Dec 23 (Reuters) – Britain’s Solar newspaper on Friday apologized for publishing a column by British tv presenter Jeremy Clarkson about Prince Harry’s spouse Meghan, days after it grew to become the UK press requirements regulator’s most complained about article.

“We at The Solar remorse the publication of this text and we’re sincerely sorry,” the newspaper mentioned in a statement, including that the article had been faraway from its web site and archives.

Within the column revealed final week, Clarkson, who gained worldwide fame as presenter of motoring present “High Gear”, wrote of Meghan: “At evening, I am unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my enamel and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade bare via the streets of each city in Britain whereas the crowds chant, ‘Disgrace!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

Britain’s Impartial Press Requirements Organisation (IPSO) regulator mentioned on Tuesday that it had acquired greater than 17,500 complaints, essentially the most about any article because it was established in 2014.

Greater than 60 lawmakers signed a letter written by Caroline Nokes, chair of parliament’s Girls and Equalities Choose Committee, to the editor of the Solar warning such articles contribute to a local weather of hatred and violence towards girls.

In a press release posted on Twitter on Monday, Clarkson mentioned he was “horrified to have brought about a lot damage” and can be “extra cautious in future”.
